ULTRA-METABOLISM
narrated by Mark Hyman, MD
A synopsis by Simons Opinion
Setting Your Metabolism on Cruise Control
Metabolism is the key to automatic weight loss or weight management.
Exercise is only one part of the equation, and in Simons' opinion, it is overrated. I'll explain that in a while.
The other part is diet, which is broken down into 2 components.
- MACROnutrition is all about carbohydrates, fats and proteins.
- MICROnutrition includes: vitamins, minerals, enzymes, biotics, etc.
Most people define a diet by restricting the food quantities we eat. In my humble opinion, it is also overrated.
Dr. Mark Hyman is at the cutting edge of science called nutrigenonics. Every cell in our body has an engine called the mitochondria. I'll just call them mitos (as in my-toes) for short.
The mitos' main job is to convert food into energy.
If food doesn't get converted, then food is stored as fat.
Two reasons that food isn't converted:
1. Energy is NOT required (we aren't moving our bodies)
2. Mitos are not functioning properly (in other words, the engine powerplant is out of tune!)
Mechanical engines require different kinds of fuel: some require diesel, others need octane grade 89, and in some ultra-high performance machines, they require jet fuel. Other engines run on coal, ethanol, kerosene, and the list goes on and on.
In the same way, since we all have different genetic codes, our mitos engines inside our bodies will require different nutritional fuel from one person to another.
My feast could be your poison and vice versa. It is critical to understand that personalizing your eating habits is the key.
Mark Hyman discusses the 7 myths of weight gain:
- The Starvation Myth
- The Calorie Myth
- The Fat Myth
- The Carb Myth
- The Sumo Wrestler Myth
- The French Paradox Myth
- The Protector Myth (the most surprising for most people)
