A few years ago, I discovered that I had pre-hypertension; in other words I was on the edge of suffering from high blood pressure. I did not want to settle for prescription drugs to address the symptoms. So after almost a year of searching for the cause, it turned out that it wasn't the food I was eating, nor was it my genetics either.
Surprisingly, it was primarily due to my poor breathing habits. (My cardiologist knew about it, but his first recommendation was drugs. He only volunteered the information about breathing techniques after I probed him with a bunch of questions.)
That's right, if I breathe properly, my blood pressure drops. If I don't , I'm in trouble.
"I Owe My Health To Our Dog, Bernard"
To make a long story short, Bernard (a lhasa apso mix) came into our household. He is largely responsible for getting myself into shape. We've developed a daily ritual to walk between 30-60 minutes daily. He gets to play, sniff every shrub, and bark at all the cats, (and of course do his business).
As for me, I get my necessary dose of clean oxygen and sunshine as well. Needless to say, it's also a great time to listen to my audiobooks.
I wouldn't classify Bernard as a miracle dog, but in honor of all the other dogs who perform daily miracles for their human companions, I'm dedicting this special page.
The least that I could do is to provide for the very best that I can for Bernard. So I just had to check this out:
On a lighter note, take a look at the following recommendations:
1. Some of you might recognize the name of Zig Ziglar. He's a legend in corporate America, especially in the field of sales and marketing. Among his collection of best-sellers on success and motivation, he's got this one book: Conversations with Dogs. Here he talks about his personal relationship with his dog, Taffy, and its relevance to our own health and happiness.
2. For those of you having challenges with dog behavior, and you want to become your own "Dog Whisperer", you can try these 2 other audiobooks.
We all know that dogs are smart. But more importantly, they have personalities - each one being unique on his own.
The secret to dog behavior training is to understand the world from their perspective, and "talk" to them in the instinctive language that they understand.
